Ever since I can remember, I’ve been busy. As a student athlete and later as a nutrition professional and parent, I still don’t know the meaning of “down time.” I’ve told myself that this constant stream of activity and achievement is how I am best able to find success, though, lately I wonder if I’ve been unintentionally deceiving myself. With a steady schedule of THINGS TO DO, I get a lot of tasks checked off my list BUT at what cost? What experiences have I missed out on?
As I embark on a journey of self-care in 2019, one of my intentions is to SLOW. IT. DOWN. Take a breath, or even take 5 minutes to breathe deeply. This doesn’t mean that I won’t still meet my list of professional and personal goals, but it is about shifting my focus so that a filled calendar is no longer the hallmark of my accomplishments. For me, trying to change this way of thinking is just one step forward in a larger quest for balance and harmony. And yes, that’s going to take more than one year.☺
What are you working towards in 2019 and beyond?
