Ah, here we are in the midst of the holiday season. As a practicing dietitian, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve counseled others on tips for healthy eating during the holidays. Here are some of my personal favorite ways to help maintain healthy and balanced eating during this festive season. Happy Holidays!
- DO NOT SKIP MEALS. Having a meal or snack in your own regular time intervals throughout the day helps keep your hunger levels and blood sugars controlled, which may also help you to make more balanced food choices when faced with a plethora of holiday-related goodies.
- STAY HYDRATED. Aim to meet your personal water goals (many people strive to drink 64-100 oz. each day) and if you plan to drink alcohol, alternate glasses of water between each alcoholic beverage.
- PRACTICE MINDFULNESS. With the hustle and bustle of this busy season, take time to notice your feelings, thoughts and stress level. Check in with yourself before meals and parties to set an intention for how you would like to handle whatever situations may come your way.
